Hi Ayanda. I just realised I missed this article when it came out as I was reading the recent one. I recently started a blog and i have been struggling with it. The problem is I have been trying to write something meaningful, something touching, something important. I realise the reason why I didn’t read this article was because I needed to read it after I’ve created my blog. I needed to hear someone tell me that what I think, and what is important to me matters, and if it matters to me, what makes me think it won’t to someone else? The fear, imposter syndrome, and perfectionism are so so real! The theme of perfectionism and how it relates to oppressive structures has been a real mind worm with me lately. It's crazy how these systems show up in ways that may not initially seem obvious.
"How do we add to the collective? We rebel against the structures that do not serve it, which includes perfectionism." This quote!! Our creativity is not just our birthright but also our revolutionary duty! (and 100% with you, NOT hustle culture, but the many many ways our creativity can be expressed from the loudest to the quietest).
I found you through TikTok (loved your username, made me chuckle), and this article was timed perfectly. I was getting so frustrated being fed productivity content, or "grindset" motivational speeches, as I searched the internet for help finding the motivation to create.
